These genuine automotive leather hides are designed for applications where durability, appearance, and resistance to sunlight are important. Originally manufactured for automotive interiors, these hides have been treated to provide UV resistance, making them well suited for vehicle restoration, aircraft seating as well as many upholstery and leather craft projects.
Each hide measures approximately 36–42 square feet, providing enough material for larger projects while maintaining the strength expected from automotive-grade leather.
Compared to standard upholstery leather, automotive leather is generally slightly firmer in temper and slightly thinner, averaging 3–4 oz. This combination makes it easier to stretch around contours while still providing excellent durability for high-wear applications.
Exception: The Pewter Blue hide has an exceptionally soft hand and drape. It feels much more like traditional upholstery leather while maintaining the benefits of automotive-grade finishing.
