Leather hides don't have to carry a high-end price tag. At Leather Lady NC, we source our inventory directly from furniture manufacturers, overstocks, designer closeouts, and exclusive liquidations. These are the same full-grain and top-grain hides seen on other sites for $265 to $450 per hide.

If you have been shopping, be sure to look at what you are getting.  Most listings that say full hides are only 18-24 square feet.  Ours are 36-50 square feet, usually at half the price with free shipping.

Because we hunt for bargains and buy in bulk, we can pass our savings on to you.  Hides start at $125 with free shipping (USA only), saving you 50% to 75%.

There are some drawbacks to buying from us that we want you to know about up front:

  • We cater to: Crafters, DIY, remodelers, and homeowners who are happy with a "medium brown" and not a specific color of brown. We don't match specific colors. The images reflect the color you will receive.

  • The Quality: You are getting top grain leather  Most of our leather comes from overruns of high end furniture companies or close outs.

  • The Selection: We sell by color family (shades) rather than exact dye-lot codes.  See our images for the colors.

  •  What we sell/makes us different:  Most website sell specific colors and except for the variations in color caused by the dye lot are close to the same color.  We appreciate the benefits that brings.  We are located in High Point, NC  (the furniture capital of the world) and found furniture companies who make leather furniture sometimes end up with "leftovers" from their production.  They might have one hide or thirty.  We buy them at a discount and pass the savings onto you.  If they are closing or discontinuing a line, we buy all that they have, so that brings us to the question:

      To keep our prices this low, we operate a little differently from other leather stores:

      • ✅ YES, this is for you if: You are reupholstering a chair, an ottoman, or a small sofa and want the highest quality leather for the lowest possible price. If you order 2–5 hides, we are a good fit.  We sometimes get 20 the same color, but not on a regular basis.

      • ❌ NO, this is not for you if: You are an interior designer requiring 10+ hides of an exact, specific dye-lot for a large commercial project, or if you are trying to perfectly match an existing piece of furniture you already own, we are not a good fit.

      Product Details

      • Grade: Top Grain (No bonded or "split" leathers).

      • Size: Average 36–55 Sq. Ft. (Full Hides).

      • Weight: 4-6 oz.—perfect for upholstery, automotive seating, and premium bags.

      • Shipping:  Most orders ship out in 24 hours.  The leather is stored unfolded but we do usually fold it before shipping.  In most cases this will not cause a wrinkle but if it does you can iron the back on medium heat (lowest setting that the steam iron makes steam) and the wrinkle will come out.  This saves about $15-$20 in shipping charges, which we pass onto you.

      • Tanning: Chrome Tanned for a soft, supple hand and excellent color retention. (Note: Not vegetable tanned).

      Top Grain Leather

      Most high-quality leather furniture you find in stores is Top Grain.

      • What it is: The outermost layer of the hide is sanded or buffed to remove "imperfections" (scars, bug bites, or brand marks).
      • Why it’s used: It is more pliable and consistent than full grain. Manufacturers love it because it’s easier to work with, and consumers often prefer the uniform look.
      • Durability: Very high. It usually has a finish coat applied that protects it from spills and stains.

      How to determine the number of Hides you will need:

      • Measure the piece you are recovering: Example: Piece is 24 x 24 inches with 4 inch sides and the back is being covered with fabric.  Size you would need is 32" x 32" plus a little extra for stitching.  You would need approximately 1/4 hide figuring the hide is 72" x 72".  See graphics below.
